Tom Selleck, 79, has been openly campaigning for the continuation of his hit show Blue Bloods. Now, he seems fed up, and is speaking out this week to rip into CBS for canceling the police drama.

Selleck Is ‘Frustrated’ With CBS

The final eight episodes of Blue Bloods are set to begin airing later this month. The fan-favorite has been on since 2010, and Selleck was left devastated when CBS canceled it.

“I’m kind of frustrated,” Selleck told TV Insider. “During those last eight shows, I haven’t wanted to talk about an ending for Blue Bloods but about it still being wildly successful.”

“In a Top 100 Shows of 2023-2024 (in total viewers, we were number 9 out of 100), if you discount the three football shows, we’re #6!” the former Magnum P.I. star continued. “My frustration is the show was always taken for granted because it performed from the get-go.”

Selleck went on to say that he is trying not to be bitter about this situation.

“I’m not going to turn into a bitter old guy saying, ‘Get off my lawn!’” he added. “I don’t believe in holding grudges, but if you were to say to the television network, ‘Here’s a show you can program in the worst time slot you got, and it is going to guarantee you winning Friday night for the next 15 years,’ it would be almost impossible to believe.”

“So how do I feel? It’s going to take a long time to sort all of this out,” Selleck admitted. “I remember after the weekend [of the final episode’s shoot], I said, ‘I’ve got to get to bed early tonight because I have to do my dialogue for Monday.’ Well, there was no Monday. It’s just going to take a while.”

Selleck Tried To Save Blue Bloods

Selleck has been playing the fictional NYPD Commissioner Frank Reagan on Blue Bloods ever since the show premiered back in 2010. After CBS announced Blue Bloods’ cancellation at the end of last year, Selleck spent months trying to save the show. Even in May, Selleck was still hoping that the higher-ups at CBS would “come to their senses” and spare Blue Bloods from cancellation.

“We’re the third-highest scripted show in all of broadcast,” he told CBS News at the time. “We’re winning the night. All the cast wants to come back. And I can tell you this: we aren’t sliding off down a cliff. We’re doing good shows, and still holding our place.”

“CBS will find an awful lot of people aren’t ready to say goodbye to it,” he later added. “The show’s more popular than ever, and I think [numbers] will increase with the interest this year. We’re certainly not out of ideas.”

Selleck Mourns Blue Bloods

After the cancellation of Blue Bloods was announced last year, Selleck released an official statement about the situation.

“For the past 13 years it has been an honor and a privilege to work on a show that now only celebrates the men and women who protect and serve in New York City, but also displayed the importance of family,” he said at the time. “Working alongside these incredible actors, writers, producers, directors and crew has been a dream come true and I’m grateful to have been a part of this extraordinary group for over 275 episodes.”

The final eight episodes of Blue Bloods will begin airing on CBS on October 18. Let’s make sure this beloved show goes out on a high by getting it as much viewership as possible!
