Hollywood star Tom Selleck, 79, wrapped filming the final episodes of his television series Blue Bloods back in June after starring on the police drama for fourteen years. Since then, fears have grown for Selleck’s health in his seeming retirement, as sources say that he has become “virtually obese” from his devastation over CBS canceling Blue Bloods.

Selleck’s Massive Weight Gain

Insiders and medical experts are saying that Selleck, who stands at 6-foot-4-inches tall, is now around 350 pounds. This is a 150 pound weight gain from his days on Magnum P.I. in the 1980s.

“Tom was a strapping 200 pounds when he was acting on the show, but now he’s virtually obese,” one insider told Closer Weekly. “He’s bigger than before and it’s a shame to see him this way, so heavy and struggling to squeeze behind the wheel of his car.”

Selleck has had a particularly difficult time coming to terms with Blue Bloods being canceled. He had been playing the fictional NYPD Commissioner Frank Reagan on the show since 2010 and loves the role.

“It breaks his heart the show’s over,” the source lamented. “These people were family to him, and they went out for lots of fancy meals toward the end. He’s been continuing that trend, judging by the looks of him!”

“His whole body is falling apart by the looks of him,” the insider continued. “He needs to shed pounds, anyone can see that, but it’s not going to be easy. Clearly, this forced retirement hasn’t done him much good!”

Medical Doctor Weighs In

Dr. Gabe Mirkin, who hasn’t personally treated Selleck, was quick to agree.

“I’d guess he weighs 350 pounds now,” Dr. Mirkin said. “He has abdominal obesity, which is really bad — he gained the weight in his belly!”

Dr. Mirkin went on to warn that abdominal obesity carries many potential health risks. It is “associated with excessive fat in the liver that causes insulin resistance, that causes diabetes, that increases risk for heart attacks and strokes.”

“He must get the fat out of his liver immediately, if not sooner!” he added. “I am so worried about him that if I were his physician, I would recommend gastric bypass surgery if there were no health factors to make this too dangerous.”

Selleck Tried To Save Blue Bloods

This comes after Selleck worked over time to save Blue Bloods. Back in May, he said that he was still hoping that CBS executives would “come to their senses.”

“We’re the third-highest scripted show in all of broadcast,” he told CBS News at the time. “We’re winning the night. All the cast wants to come back. And I can tell you this: we aren’t sliding off down a cliff. We’re doing good shows, and still holding our place.”

In January, Selleck said that he had “learned to love” his busy schedule filming the show.

“Sometimes the hours are a little harder because I’m older, but so what?” he told TV Insider. “I want to work as long as they’ll have me.”

This has clearly been a very difficult time for Selleck. Please join us in saying a prayer for him and his health!
