CBS Entertainment President, Amy Reisenbach, has revealed why NCIS: Hawai’i got the boot and admitted the decision was not easy.
On Tuesday, Amy spoke about the cancellation, announced in April, while on the panel at the Banff World Media Festival 2024 in Banff, Alberta, Canada.

She discussed the network’s future after revamping much of its primetime lineup, including getting rid of NCIS: Hawai’i three years after its premiere.
CSI: Vegas and So Help Me Todd also got the axe after a short run.
“They’re extremely tough calls to make,” Amy confessed to the crowd. “I’m a big fan of TV first, and I sympathize and relate to all of the fans out there who are disappointed in the fact that these shows are ending.”
The network‘s president continued, “But at the end of the day, our job at CBS is to make those really tough calls. We toss and turn, and have sleepless nights, and have endless discussions, but we look at all of the numbers.
“We look at what our projections are for the future. We look at where we see opportunities to potentially have even bigger success on the schedule. And we make those tough decisions,” Amy closed.
The news of NCIS: Hawai’i’s cancellation was revealed during the show’s third season.
According to The Hollywood Reporter, the show wasn’t getting renewed for a fourth season, making it the shortest NCIS series.
It starred Love Is Blind’s Vanessa Lachey and LL Cool J, who also appeared in NCIS: Los Angeles.
Based on Amy’s comments at the festival, it’s suspected that NCIS: Hawai’i was canceled due to low ratings.
Despite this, the network got the green light for a new series in the franchise, NCIS: Origins, which is expected to premiere sometime during the 2024-2025 broadcast season.
They also got the go-ahead to renew the original NCIS and NCIS: Sydney.
Fans expressed their disappointment on social media that NCIS: Hawai’i was not renewed and begged the network to reconsider.
Some even threatened to riot if the show wasn’t picked back up.
“We are truly heartbroken to announce that NCIS: Hawai’i is not being renewed for another season,” one X, formerly Twitter user, mocked CBS about the show’s cancellation.
