The television show Blue Bloods came to an end last month after being on for fourteen years. It was a hit with fans and critics alike ever since it premiered back in 2010. Sadly, CBS still decided to cancel it.

The Blue Bloods star Tom Selleck, 79, has made no secret of being devastated by this show’s cancelation. Now, sources close to the former Magnum P.I. star are claiming that he’s desperate to “get back in shape” as he looks to his future.

Selleck Eager To ‘Get Back In Shape’

Many a fan had commented on how Selleck was looking after news broke about Blue Bloods. Besides looking out of shape, fans said he looked downcast and bummed out.

It seems he’s aware of the criticism, and he wants to turn it around!

“Tom meant it when he said he wants to get on a horse, he doesn’t think that’s too much to hope for at all,” an insider told Closer Weekly. “The issue is that he’s had some mobility issues, as everyone knows, but he’s working really hard to tackle that.”

“He’s lifting weights and practicing Tai Chi to improve his balance and doing physiotherapy. He’s also really watching everything he eats so he can shed some weight, which will make everything easier,” the source continued. “He and his wife love to take long walks around their farm every night after dinner, which is great and he’s been swimming as well, he’s really coming at this from every angle.”

Selleck has been married to his wife Jillie Mack since 1987. They live together on a 63-acre ranch in California.

Selleck’s Upcoming Landmark Birthday

Selleck will be turning 80 at the end of this month. This has left him “very motivated” to get in his best physical shape. Indeed, he believes his Hollywood career is far from over.

And we fans hope he’s right!

“He has a lot more he wants to accomplish,” the insider concluded. “At the top of his list is getting something in one of Taylor Sheridan’s shows, like Yellowstone, he’s pushing hard for that and that’s giving him the push he needs to stick to his diet and workouts.”

Another source claimed that because Selleck has suffered from “orthopedic issues” for years, Blue Bloods showrunners made adjustments for him on the set of the beloved CBS police drama.

“The workaround for that was the show’s signature dinner table scenes, which allowed Tom to do long takes and have big acting moments without being on his feet four hours out of the day,” this insider explained. “That approach will extend to whatever Tom does next. CBS is happy to custom-build a show around Tom’s needs.”

Selleck Isn’t Done Yet

After Blue Bloods’ final episode aired last month, Selleck let his fans know that he’s not done acting.

“I’m grateful to say, and the writers continued to see the evolution in the characters and let them grow and change,” Selleck said on December 14. “Fifteen years is a long time, and you change physically, you change every other way. You’re just older. At a certain point, all those things entered into what I’ll put in my little actor’s handbook and use, because I certainly don’t intend to stop working.”

God bless Selleck for continuing to show the world that age really is just a number. We wish him the best of luck in his fitness journey. We also can’t wait to see where his Hollywood career takes him next!
