Any series finale for a long-time show can provide mixed emotions from fans. Some are happy with the way things end, but if there are any questions left unanswered, viewers can often feel disappointed.
The situation with Blue Bloods and the police drama ending has been sticky for a while now. Star Tom Selleck has been a major advocate for the show continuing as the “third-highest” scripted series on the network, and many fans had hoped that CBS would reverse its decision and keep the show on the air. As the final episode aired this past Friday, December 13 to mixed reviews, viewers are demanding a spin-off, now more than ever.
Blue Bloods Series Finale – A Murder, A Baby, A Secret Wedding
It’s never easy saying goodbye to a beloved show, especially one that’s been on the air for 14 seasons. Blue Bloods fans were in tears, as they bid farewell to the cop drama, with plenty of highs and lows.
One major storyline that brought on the waterworks was when Luis Badillo (Ian Quinlan) was gunned down while with Eddie Janko (Vanessa Ray), during an investigation, and passed away in some highly emotional scenes.
Criminals were running wild within New York; however, Mayor Chase (Dylan Walsh) – who was also shot by some thugs – handed Frank Reagan (Tom Selleck) the keys to the city with instructions to regain order.
This is exactly what eventually occurred, and the Regans were able to sit down and celebrate as a family, around the dinner table.
There was also more good news in the form of Erin Reagan-Boyle (Bridget Moynahan) remarrying ex-hubby Jack Boyle (Peter Hermann); however, they stopped before telling the fam jam this, as Eddie and Jamie Reagan (Will Estes) told everyone they were pregnant!
Not to mention, Danny Reagan (Donnie Wahlberg) asking Maria Baez (Marisa Ramirez) on a date for pizza.
Blue Bloods Series Finale – Fans Want A Spin-Off
There were plenty of ups and downs in the finale, but did the show pave a way for a spin-off?
Many Blue Bloods viewers on the social media platform, X, commented on how they hoped the network would decide on a Blue Bloods spin-off. One wrote: “So many tears shed tonight during the Blue Bloods finale! Glad it ended on a happy note! Hoping for a spin off!”
Another X user stated: “Watched the very last episode of Blue Bloods. Started good, ending a little too soft. Think Danny and Maria finally hooked up when going for pizza. Eddie and Jamie having a kid, that be a great story. Bittersweet that it was the last episode. Spin-Off?????”
Another fan on X noted: “Watched Blue Bloods faithfully, and we will miss it. We still watch the reruns on ION, and we hope it remains on there. That said, I am hoping that the rumors of a spin-off are true.”
