There are just two more episodes left to air of the CBS police drama Blue Bloods. The beloved series has been on since 2010, but its last episode will air a week from today.

In anticipation of this, the Blue Bloods star Tom Selleck, 79, is looking to the future. In a new interview, Selleck is saying that he’d love to do a project with the Yellowstone creator Taylor Sheridan!

Selleck Wants To Do A Western Again

“I wouldn’t say [offers] are pouring in, but maybe some people are thinking of me,” Selleck told Parade. “A good Western’s always on my list. I miss that; I want to sit on a horse again.”

Selleck has starred in six Westerns that include Quigley Down Under and Shadow Riders.

“I’m very proud of Quigley Down Under, which has passed the test of time and is still very, very popular,” he gushed. “That was a big Western and he was clearly an iconic hero. I don’t mind saying I was a little anxious to play a part that maybe John Wayne could have done better.”

“I don’t know where my next job will take me,” Selleck continued. “People ask, ‘What do you want to do next?’ I’m not sure. I don’t want to do Frank Reagan II.”

Selleck’s California Ranch

Westerns are so special to Selleck that he lives on a 65-acre ranch in California with his wife Jillie Mack, 66. The property was previously an avocado ranch, but the California drought decimated its trees.

“We have a little avocado harvest every year,” Selleck explained.

Despite this, Selleck isn’t a fan of avocados.

“I know what they taste like now, because David Letterman made me eat one and I gagged,” he admitted. “I’m not much of a vegetable guy. I was a very fussy eater as a kid….I was afraid to spend the night over at a friend’s house because I was afraid of what they’d have for dinner. I grew up on a pretty simple diet.”

Christmas has always been a favorite time of year for Selleck.

“We had a ritual at the ranch for years. It’s an old hunting lodge that was built in 1910,” he recalled. “All the Selleck family, my brothers and sisters, my mom and dad, we’d all open presents in the lodge and then go over to the house and have dinner. It’s gotten impossible because my mom and dad are gone and my brothers and sisters all had kids and now they have kids. We’d need to rent a hall.”

This year, Selleck will be celebrating Christmas with his wife and their daughter Hannah, 35.

“Christmas is something for Jillie and Hannah and me, really,” he explained. “Maybe we go to one of my brothers’ or my sister’s house for a while, but mainly it’s family time just for us.”

Selleck ‘Frustrated’ By Blue Bloods Cancellation

Selleck has been struggling to come to terms with the fact that Blue Bloods is ending. Indeed, he spent most of this year desperately trying to save Blue Bloods from cancellation.

“I’m kind of frustrated,” he told TV Insider in October. “During those last eight shows, I haven’t wanted to talk about an ending for Blue Bloods but about it still being wildly successful. In a Top 100 Shows of 2023-2024 (in total viewers, we were No. 9 out of 100), if you discount the three football shows, we’re No. 6!”

“My frustration is the show was always taken for granted because it performed from the get-go,” Selleck continued. “So how do I feel? It’s going to take a long time to sort all of this out. I remember after the weekend [of the final episode’s shoot], I said, ‘I’ve got to get to bed early tonight because I have to do my dialogue for Monday.’ Well, there was no Monday. It’s just going to take a while.”

Whatever comes next for Selleck, we’re sure it’ll be amazing. Here’s hoping that Sheridan can find a role for him on one of his iconic shows!
