The series finale of the beloved CBS police drama Blue Bloods is set to air on December 13. In anticipation of this, CBS aired the special Blue Bloods: Celebrating a Family Legacy last Friday.

During this special, the longtime Blue Bloods prop master Zachary Badalucco revealed one surprising rule about the iconic Reagan family dinners.

Selleck Admits ‘I Did Lose It’

“Before I got here, chicken cutlets were banned,” he said. “Somebody broke their fork because the chicken cutlet was so hard.”

A clip was then played in which Selleck, 79, explained the story behind this.

“I did lose it one time a couple years ago,” Selleck said with a laugh. “We were having chicken cutlets and they were overcooked and they were like metal. And we often use plastic knives and forks because it doesn’t make noise. And I just lost it a little bit. It wasn’t a tantrum but I just tossed it like a frisbee across the room to make a point.”

Flying chicken cutlets on the quiet set of Blue Bloods sounds like a great time!

Selleck further opened up about this back in May.

“We have plastic forks and knives painted silver for the dinner scenes,” Selleck told Esquire. “I got a chicken cutlet one day and I broke two forks in the middle of my close-up, and I really got pissed. It was not my finest hour on Blue Bloods. I took that cutlet and threw it like a frisbee across the room, which I have never heard the end of since.”

Nor should he! That’s just good, clean fun.

Blue Bloods Dinner Scenes

Blue Bloods has been on since 2010. During that time, there have been 286 Reagan family dinner scenes. Filming these scenes takes “forever,” with the cast saying that it can take up to eight hours just for one scene.

The Blue Bloods star Donnie Wahlberg reportedly “eats like a madman” while filming these scenes.

“The other castmates all have their own approach to eating dinner,” Wahlberg explained. “Bridget looks like she’s eating but she never eats.”

This was a reference to his co-star Bridget Moynahan. In contrast, Wahlberg never hesitates to eat during filming.

“I’ll start eating during the first take and then it tastes good and then by the end of a dinner scene taping I may literally have eaten the equivalent of like 12 pork chops,” he admitted.

Hey, take it where you can get it, right?

Selleck ‘Frustrated’ By Blue Bloods Cancelation

Selleck has confessed to being devastated that CBS has cancelled Blue Bloods.

“I’m kind of frustrated,” he told TV Insider in October. “During those last eight shows, I haven’t wanted to talk about an ending for Blue Bloods but about it still being wildly successful. In a Top 100 Shows of 2023-2024 (in total viewers, we were No. 9 out of 100), if you discount the three football shows, we’re No. 6!”

“My frustration is the show was always taken for granted because it performed from the get-go. So how do I feel? It’s going to take a long time to sort all of this out. I remember after the weekend [of the final episode’s shoot], I said, ‘I’ve got to get to bed early tonight because I have to do my dialogue for Monday,’” Selleck added. “Well, there was no Monday. It’s just going to take a while.”

There are still two more episodes of Blue Bloods that have yet to air. Be sure to tune in on Friday so that we can ensure that this show goes out on a ratings high!
