The final eight episodes of the beloved series Blue Bloods are set to begin airing tonight. The show has been airing on CBS since 2010, and fans are devastated that it has been canceled.
Over the past few months, rumors have swirled that a Blue Bloods spinoff could be in the works. Donnie Wahlberg, who plays Danny Reagan on the show, is now speaking out to address this.
Wahlberg Sounds Off
“There’s been a lot of talk about spinoffs, about various spinoffs, all types of concepts of spinoffs,” Wahlberg, 55, told TV Insider. “I, for me personally, would say whatever happens next, if it’s done with the spirit of Blue Bloods and done with the care that we tried to put into Blue Bloods every week, it would be something that I would look forward to watching or being a part of either way.”
Fans, Mr. Wahlberg, surely agree!
“I’ve heard stories of prequels, sequels, you name it,” he continued. “For me personally, I love the show. I’ve enjoyed working on it for 14 years and like I said, whatever comes next, as long as it has family at its core and the spirit of Blue Bloods, then I’m all for it.”
At the current moment, Wahlberg is focusing all of his energy on the final eight episodes of Blue Bloods.
“I think what I do know is there are millions of people who love this show and want it to continue somehow some way. And if there’s a way that we can give them some extension of Blue Bloods, then great,” he added. “I have nothing more to offer than that, but I will be enjoying the final eight episodes with the fans. That’s my priority right now.”

Wahlberg’s Previous Comments
Wahlberg had previously discussed the possibility of a Blue Bloods spinoff series back in August.
“Well, we filmed the apparent last season of Blue Bloods, and it’ll air starting in October. Maybe there’ll be something else after that,” Wahlberg told TV Insider at the time. “I don’t know anything officially yet, but there’s things in the works. So maybe something awesome will happen.”
Two months before that, Paramount Global Co-CEO Brian Robbins hinted that a Blue Bloods spinoff could be in development.
“In TV, new franchise extensions are coming for Dexter, Billions and Blue Bloods,” Robbins said while presenting at Paramount Global’s annual stockholders meeting.
Spinoffs for both Billions (Millions) and Dexter (Dexter: Origins) have already been announced. However, at the time of this writing, no Blue Bloods spinoff has been confirmed.

Tom Selleck Wants Blue Bloods To Continue
One person who would seemingly not hesitate to sign on for a Blue Bloods sequel is Tom Selleck, who plays the fictional NYPD Commissioner Frank Reagan. The 79 year-old former Magnum P.I. star spent months trying to save Blue Bloods after its cancellation was announced at the end of last year.
“CBS will find an awful lot of people aren’t ready to say goodbye to it,” Selleck told TV Insider back in January. “The show’s more popular than ever, and I think [numbers] will increase with the interest this year.”
“We’re certainly not out of ideas,” he stated. “I’m not counting the days so I can do something else.”
For the last 14 years, viewers have joined the Reagan family at their iconic Sunday dinner table. Now, @BlueBloods_CBS is beginning its final run of episodes.

Blue Bloods is one of the few shows on television that openly supports both law enforcement and family values. We can only hope that a spinoff series is in the works, because we would certainly watch it!
