LEGENDARY actor Ed Wheeler, who starred in the hit show Law & Order, has died at 88.

The star, who appeared in six episodes of the drama series between 1992 and 2004, died in a New Jersey hospital, his wife revealed.

Messeret Stroman Wheeler told Deadline that he died on August 21 after suffering respiratory issues following pneumonia complications.

She paid a heartbreaking tribute to her husband on social media as she announced his death to fans.

“Your talent, dedication, and passion were unmatched—whether on stage, in front of the camera, or behind the scenes,” she posted on Instagram.

“My Honey Ed, you were more than just a public figure; you were a guiding light, a supportive partner, and my heart.

“We built a life and created art together, and your legacy will continue to inspire. I will forever miss your voice, your wisdom, and your generosity.

“To all who knew Ed, thank you for your love and support during this time.

“Let’s remember him for the joy he brought into our lives and the profound impact he had on the world.”

Hundreds of fans have left messages of condolence underneath Messeret’s social media post.

Wheeler’s career in television and film spanned four decades.

He starred in an episode of the 1988 show Monsters and featured in Cosby in 1996, according to his IMDB.

The actor was also known for starring in shows such as Soul Food and the sitcom Hope & Faith.

Wheeler, born in 1936, also appeared in the police drama Blue Bloods, which stars Donnie Wahlberg and Bridget Moynahan.

His appearance in the show proved to be his final role.

The actor appeared in movies such as Harrison Ford’s Presumed Innocent, in which he played a detective, and the 1998 movie Godzilla.

And he starred in the movie Thinner, which was inspired by Stephen King’s 1984 novel of the same name.

Wheeler wasn’t just a film and TV star.

He also appeared in commercials for products such as Sudafed and Luv diapers.

The star was given the Living Legend Award by the National Black Theatre Festival for his contributions to television and film in 2017.

In January 2023, Messeret announced she and her husband had produced a play together.

She shared a heartwarming snap that showed the couple beaming as she announced the news to her fans.
